EMPD arrest irate motorist

"Officers had to use pepper spray to subdue the man."

A 59-year-old driver has been arrested after disregarding traffic control measures put in place by EMPD after a truck loaded with wood lost control and overturned on May 21 on the R24 Westbound.

“The driver who broke every rule in the book with regards to traffic and moral issues had to be arrested following an aggressive rage and spewing of unprintable words directed at officers,” said the EMPD spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago.

“Officers were working fervently to arrange for the recovery of the overturned truck and doing all that was in their power to expedite the easing up of the traffic congestion by controlling traffic.

“The EMPD’s warning attempts, sirens and blue lights, went unheeded by the driver. The officers had to arrest him. Over and above disregarding all directions from the officers, he cursed and called officers names and also assaulted them. Officers had to use pepper spray to subdue the man,” said Lt Col Kgasago.

“The driver, who was aggressive and rude, was arrested and charged with crimen injuria, assault and resisting arrest,” said Lt Col Kgasago.
