UPDATE: Victims targeted in job scam urged to open cases

Women flocked to the Holy Rosary School in Edenvale on the morning of July 1 with the wrong understanding they were to start the first day at a new job. ALSO READ: Holy Rosary warns of scam targeting job seekers
The school has since urged job seekers not to fall for what has been described as a scam targeting the unemployed and those seeking work.
Ms Kenda Knowles, the school’s marketing and foundation manager, said job seekers arrived at the school on Friday morning to report for work after they had received a message with the promise of employment at “Rosary Private School”. The job seekers had received electronic messages informing them they will start work on July 1 and that each had to pay R159 for uniforms. The women were promised remuneration of R5 500.
“The messages state ‘Rosary Private School JHB’ and contains our correct and full address,” said Ms Knowles, She said that “the messages were made to seem legit”.
The school has since warned job seekers not to fall for this scam and urged those affected by it open cases with the SAPS.
“Well over 20 job seekers were here Friday morning. They were already here from 7.15am,” said the school’s receptionist, Ms Tiziana Benigno.
Edenvale SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Jean Olckers, also urged job seekers who were conned out of money via this scam, to come forward and open cases.
He said by Friday afternoon, no cases had been opened yet.
The NEWS sent media inquires to Shoprite head office and was advised comment will be provided Friday afternoon.
This was followed-up with numerous phone calls on Friday afternoon.
