One arrested in joint operation

The shops started phoning each other to send warnings of the EMPD K9 Units presence,

On July 20 the EMPD K9 unit and Edenvale’s City Improvement District (ECID) management conducted a joint drug search operation at various locations in Edenvale.

The operation, which lasted the morning of Wednesday, saw searches conducted in Edenvale at stores that were suspected to have drugs.

The searches resulted in the discovery and confiscation of various drugs which included dagga, cat and crystal meth.

Mrs Linda McKenzie, manager of ECID, said that dagga was found hidden in a toilet cistern on property behind a store. One hundred packets of dagga were found. “The bankies were estimated at R30 per packet, adding up to R3 000 worth of dagga,” she said.

“A small amount of crystal meth and cat were found and confiscated as well as 39 cartons of illicit cigarettes.

“One individual was arrested for not having the correct paperwork with their passport.”

Mrs Mckenzie said that the shops started phoning each other to send warnings of the EMPD K9 Unit’s presence and as a result the operation was less successful in confiscating drugs. “However, by having the K9 Unit in the streets it showed a police presence in Edenvale and by confiscating the drugs, the dealers cannot sell to people,” said Mrs Mckenzie.
