Local doctor gears up for #MrsSA finale
"I am not a typical pageant girl. I don't have the same built as the women we see in magazines and I think winning this would prove to people that indeed Mrs SA is not a typical pageant, but a platform for women to change lives for the better and empower other women," she said.
Come October 21, 25 women will walk the big stage in Emperors Palace’s Theatre of Marcellus in the last bid to win the coveted Schwarzkopf Professional Mrs South Africa title.
Bedfordview’s Dr Lilliana Lulli-Marucchi and Tembisa Hospital doctor will be among them.
In preparation for the finale, Dr Lulli-Marucchi said the journey has awakened the person she used to be.
“What this competition aims to achieve with participants is help us become better women, and for me that journey has been going back to the woman I was at medical school. It has reminded me to pause for a bit, take a deep breath and become the woman I was before being diagnosed with cancer, starting my internship and then becoming a community service doctor,” said Dr Lulli-Marucchi.
She said for her, mental preparation is more important going into the competition.
“I believe the pageant is won during the week leading up to the finale. During pageant week we interact with judges and are judged on a number of items and for that week one needs to be strong mentally,” she said.
Asked what being crowned Mrs South Africa would mean to her, Dr Lulli-Marucchi said it would show the public that the competition is about the everyday woman.
“I am not a typical pageant girl. I don’t have the same build as the women we see in magazines and I think winning this would prove to people that, indeed, Mrs SA is not a typical pageant but a platform for women to change lives for the better and empower other women,” she said.
Dr Lulli-Marucchi is a community service doctor stationed at Tembisa Hospital’s Trauma Unit.
The finale will start at 8pm.
“Anyone buying a ticket to support me should send me their details so I can make a note,” she said.
