Cleveland CPF chairperson resigns
CPF activities were suspended due to the local government elections at the time.
Community members have been concerned about Cleveland Community Police Forum meetings not taking place. The reason was that CPF activities were suspended due to the local government elections at the time.
An annual general meeting is to be held in September.
“The CPF executive committee (exco) suspended monthly meetings due to some issues. It was resolved by the cluster chairman, the exco, station and the Provincial Department of Safety. Province will visit all the sectors and arrange a new annual general meeting for the exco,” said Ms Alison Roberts.
Ms Roberts has recently stepped down as the Cleveland CPF chairperson due to her return to politics.
“I have returned to council as a city councillor and have submitted my resignation letter, as it is required in terms of the constitution that I vacate my position as chair,” said Ms Roberts.
“Our Facebook page bears testimony to some of our successes to date as Cleveland CPF and I hope that it will continue to be used to the benefit of the community as we have reached up to 700 people on occasions.”
She said the sector WhatsApp groups, driven on a sector level, proved to be beneficial.
“All the platforms we created to communicate with the community have made a difference,” said Ms Roberts.
She encouraged residents to utilise the communications platform created to fight crime.
“The CPF is the only platform where we can raise our concerns as a community with all this happening in our areas. It is important to work together with the men and women in blue. I wish everyone everything of the best and will always support our men and women in blue in any way I can,” said Ms Roberts.
The date for the AGM is still to be announced.
