Mrs Africa finalist is building a better tomorrow
"I would like to spread the message that every girl should know and feel she is capable of reaching her dreams and that one's worth should not be based on looks,"
Mrs Africa 2016 finalist Mrs Tarryn Ogle aims to help young women develop, in order for them to reach their full potential.
This year, Mrs Ogle, a businesswoman and mother of four, along with her sponsors, will host the first Miss Teen Social Entrepreneur programme.
Mrs Ogle said the programme, which will focus on empowering teenage girls from Grades Eight to 12, aims to uplift and improve the lives of young women in South African communities.
“Over four million young girls in SA cannot attend school because of a lack of sanitary products, and I wanted to make a significant impact. What better way than to educate young teenage girls who are in school and who can afford sanitary products to spread this message with me,” she added.
Mrs Ogle explained that Miss Teen Social Entrepreneur will also raise funds and awareness for Dignity Dreams, an NGO that provides sanitary wear for young girls who cannot afford to buy their own.
“In my opinion, developing young women is a vital part of the country’s growth and future credibility,” she said.
Her main aim is to inspire young women to get involved in social entrepreneurship, so that knowledge can be shared with communities.
“The event is not a beauty pageant in the traditional sense , but more a ‘beauty with a purpose’ theme,” said Mrs Ogle.
The pageant side of the programme will focus more on fun and celebrate the work in which the participants have been involved.
“I would like to spread the message that every girl should know and feel she is capable of reaching her dreams and that one’s worth should not be based on looks,” said Mrs Ogle.
She hopes that, by hosting this pageant, awareness will be created about social responsibility, and the social entrepreneurship skills of the participants will be developed.
“I want all interested teenagers to become a part of this programme and share what they learn with their families, friends and communities,” said Mrs Ogle.
She thanked her sponsors and encouraged other sponsors to get involved, saying: “Together we can make a huge impact.”
The Miss Teen Social Entrepreneur finals will take place at Carnival City, on October 8.
