Go pink and help raise funds

"I would like to ask for residents to support this good cause by purchasing the pink material to wrap a tree."

Pink Trees for Pauline is one woman’s dream to honour her mother and grandmother, who lost their lives to cancer.

The non-profit organisation was founded in 2012 and it growing stronger every year.

The founder, Carol-Ann van Jaarsveldt, said Pink Trees for Pauline is about hope, encouragement and belonging.

“Pink Trees for Pauline is the pink wrapping on trees that signifies new life during and after cancer. It brings together various registered cancer-related organisations.

“The funds raised through awareness initiatives benefit different cancer organisations.

“The aim of Pink Trees for Pauline is to raise funds in order to assist people affected by cancer, with their right to access to cancer treatment. Members of the public and businesses alike are invited to purchase sections of pink fabric, which are used to wrap the trees that line their streets and public areas. The effect is nothing short of breathtaking and raises both awareness and funds in order to improve the lives of those living with cancer.”

The Cansa Keurboom Care Home is one of the homes that needs assistance with funds to keep its doors open.

Mrs Sandi van Tonder, chairperson of the Liaison Committee of Keurboom is appealing to residents to assist the home by buying the material to wrap a tree.

“I would like to ask for residents to support this good cause by purchasing the pink material to wrap a tree. Wrap them in pink and let us unite in hope. The money goes a long way for cancer care homes like Keurboom,” she said.

The Pink Trees for Pauline project starts from September 15 and runs until October 31.

How it works

The attention is focused on cancer and cancer awareness in a visually stimulating way.

The more people who get involved, the greater the impact. Communities, businesses, organisations and malls are encouraged to get involved.

Purchase the pink material for R25 a meter to wrap trees, pillars and lamp poles.

All funds raised will be used to improve the quality of those living with cancer within participating towns.

Funds will be used for accommodation during cancer treatment, home nursing and feeding schemes for cancer-affected patients, supplying of wigs or prosthetics or wheelchairs, playpens or toys for children in hospitals and transport needs.

Pink Trees for Pauline believes in empowering communities and contributing to a circular economy. The material used to wrap trees is taken down at the end of the project and is utilised in various ways. The donated material is used by charities to create products to sell and raise funds.
