Donation put to good use

"Be vigilant and blow the whistle on crime."

The Gauteng Friends of Police have sponsored more whistles to the Edenvale SAPS.

The whistles were donated on October 14.

Captain Jean Olckers, the spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS, said most of the whistles will be given to Sergeant Jacob Mashile, the head of the Social Crime Prevention Unit. The whistles will be used in his projects.

The remaining whistles will be given to Edenvale car guards at local shopping malls.

Capt Olckers said this will help combat the theft of motor vehicles and theft out of motor vehicles.

According to Capt Olckers, on the same day the whistles were donated, Warrant Officer Jimmy Masilela and his colleagues handed out 61 whistles to the security personnel at local shopping malls.

Capt Olckers said the whistles will be blown if there is a crime taking place at the shopping centre.

“Be vigilant and blow the whistle on crime,” said Capt Olckers.

This was the second donation of whistles from the Gauteng Friends of Police.
