Ability centre gets a boost

Activities at the centre include computer lessons, baking for, and serving in the coffee shop, arts and crafts, gift making and some physical activities.

Steven’s Ability Centre recently received a donation from Bedfordview-based property company, Harcourts Kempen.
The donation was made through the company’s Harcourts Foundation.
According to the company’s CEO, Mr Nicholas Kempen, the R8 000 will go towards the purchase of a coffee machine for the centre’s coffee shop, which is open to the public.
The centre is a registered Non Profit Organisation that focuses on young adults with developmental disabilities.
Director and founder, Mrs Vanessa dos Santos, said the centre follows an adult programme specifically designed to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship and employment. Activities at the centre include computer lessons, baking for, and serving in the coffee shop, arts and crafts, gift making and some physical activities.
“Our main aim is to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities and to build self-esteem,” said Mrs Dos Santos.
The centre is situated on Nicol Road.
