The Cleveland Community Police Forum (CCPF) held a successful annual general meeting on 12 November to elect new executive committee members.
The elections were overseen by representatives from the offices of the provincial Member of the Executive Council (MEC) and the cluster chairperson as well as his executive committee members.
The results of the elections were as follows;
- Chairperson: Godfrey Mothibe (unopposed, unanimously elected)
- Deputy chairperson: Mike Spadino
- Secretary: Jack van de Vorst
- Deputy secretary: Hope Sebatie
- Treasurer: Muhammed Ismail
- Public relations officer: Angela Mopayi.
Co-opted members will be nominated from the four sectors according to the portfolio committees established. The exco (what’s that?) will hold its monthly meetings every last Tuesday of each month. The first meeting will be on 29 November at the Cleveland police station (if the name of the police station is in full, then it must be capped, if it’s police station, or Cleveland police, it is not) boardroom from 6.30pm.
There will be no meeting in December.
The CCPF public meetings will be held every first Tuesday of each month. The first meeting is on 7 December at the Cleveland Police Station hall from 6.30pm.
The role and responsibility of the Community Police Forum is to establish and ensure co-operation between the community (represented by the CPF) and the police (whether at station, cluster or provincial level).
“The CPF provides a forum for the community to discuss policing matters with the police management… and to participate by raising concerns on policing matters and to make suggestions to improve policing. The role of the CPF is to act as a liaison between the police and the community to fulfil the needs of the community regarding policing,” said Mothibe.
