Giving to the less fortunate
Joburg – Dollar And A Dream "HopeTour" to spread Christmas cheer
Frank Leya, together with friends, would like to give those less fortunate a special Christmas.
Leya, who is 2016 LeadSA Youth Hero, and a group of friends (DollarAndADreamZA) are embarking on a Hope Tour to raise funds to buy gifts for 20 children’s home. “Before dollar and a dream were founded, I used to spend my December holidays in a safe house for children. I would speak to the children because I realised that a lot of them there had lost hope for a better life,” said Leya.
He was born in Congo and moved to Johannesburg for a better life but that was never easy over the Christmas holidays. Leya said,”Growing up in Johannesburg, December is a family time and everyone goes back home; for a foreigner like myself who didn’t have a home to go back to, it was really hard for me to even enjoy this time.
“Imagine just how difficult it is for children who stay in these safe homes.”
For the past three years, Dollar And A Dream has dedicated December to orphanages and children’s homes. “This year we want to visit 20 homes we have selected.
“In the previous years, we would collect presents from family and friends and went to specific homes. This year, we are planning to make it extra special for all the children. We are asking for a helping hand from everyone who can help.”
He said they are not only asking for money but also for manpower. “We need people to help because 20 homes have a lot of children. Please help us make these children’s December one to remember. It is the little things that make the biggest difference in someone’s life,” concluded Leya.
The Hope Tour will begin on 1 December and end on 28 December to deliver the gifts to the homes.
