#YourStory: ‘Feeding the birds gives me a sense of purpose’ – car guard
"I feed the pigeons because to me, they represent God and I look forward to interacting with them every morning."
Giving is not about what you give or how much you give, it is about doing what you can to make a difference in this world.
This is according to Mr Bruno Dinganga, a car guard at Stoneridge in Greenstone.
Mr Dinganga said feeding the pigeons gave him a sense of purpose because it is something he looks forward to every day.
“I feed the pigeons because to me, they represent God and I look forward to interacting with them every morning. I don’t always get to the chance to go to church but feeding these birds makes me feel like I have communicated with God,” said Mr Dinganga.
This married father of one said every morning when he arrives at work, he makes sure that he feeds the birds. By doing this, he feels like he has served God.
Mr Dinganga came to South Africa from the Congo in search of a better life.
“I arrived in South Africa in 2010 and I was a security guard before being a car guard. This job gives me a sense of purpose and even though I would love to get something better, I love what I do because I can feed my family,” said Mr Dinganga.
