EMM’s international relationships grow

"There was a mutual understanding that exchange programmes in education are imperative to drive cultural and skill exchanges between the two cities."

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality MMC of Human Settlements, Clr Lesiba Mpya, recently met with the deputy mayor of the People’s Government of Sanmenxia from China, Mrs Li Qinghong.

The pair discussed the relationship between the two cities and shared ideas.

Ms Gugu Ndima, the EMM’s mayoral spokesperson, said the meeting focussed broadly on the EMM’s strategic relations with other metropolitan sister cities around the globe.

At the meeting, Mrs Qinghong outlined key strategic areas of development which the City of Sanmenxia had invested in.

These investments ranged from agriculture to industrialisation.

Ms Ndima said the investment areas highlighted by Mrs Qinghong touched on the priority development areas, long term strategic plans and projects of the City of Ekurhuleni.

Ms Ndima said the meeting with the Chinese delegation included talks of possible trade/partnership relations between the two cities for the future growth in academia, trade and overall development.

She said both MMC Mpya and Deputy Mayor Qinghong strongly agreed on the need to develop young people and invest in education.

“There was a mutual understanding that exchange programmes in education are imperative to drive cultural and skill exchanges between the two cities,” said Ms Ndima.
