More than 800 arrested as Gauteng police intensify crime operations
More than 800 suspects were arrested during multidisciplinary operations across Gauteng, including roadblocks on the R24 in Jeppe and Cleveland, with arrests for immigration offences, driving under the influence and drug possession.
More than 800 suspects have been arrested during multidisciplinary operations conducted across Gauteng, including roadblocks on the R24 in Jeppe and Cleveland on August 29.
The SAPS was joined by the Department of Home Affairs, traffic officers, community policing forums and private security companies.
Gauteng acting provincial commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, led the operation.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko reported that police arrested 84 people during a roadblock for contravening the Immigration Act.
Ten liquor outlets were closed for non-compliance, 13 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, and 11 people were arrested for drug possession.
In addition, Gauteng detectives arrested 731 suspects between August 27 and 29 for various offences, including 176 for crimes against women and children.
Sibeko said the SAPS remained committed to combating criminal activities, ensuring public safety and enforcing compliance with the law.
