A helping hand to those in need

At the home, women and children are provided with the basic necessities of life, security, legal assistance, employment training and education for the children.

The Bethany House for abused women and children recently received some much-needed assistance from the Rotary Club of Knights-Pendragon.

The home, located in Bertrams, was founded in 1989 and provides shelter to 55 women and children.

At the home, women and children are provided with the basic necessities of life, security, legal assistance, employment training and education for the children.

Mr Andy Stevenson, of the Knights-Pendragon, said the home provides counselling and therapy sessions for those abused.

He said the Rotary club has supported the home for a number of years.

Stevenson said the Rotarians embarked on a renovation project at the home.

The following still needs to be done at the home:

  • A total refit of the four bathroom, this includes re-tiling and installing new pipes.
  • Redoing the electric cables throughout the facility.
  • Repainting the inside and outside of the building.

“An additional R150 000 is needed for these projects,” said Stevenson.

He said the donations will provide businesses with benefits such as Corporate Social Investment tax relief, Corporate BBBEE scorecard points and advertising at a fundraising golf day event to held on April 20.

Stevenson said the golf day fundraiser is being held at the Modderfontein Golf Course and interested parties can contact Mr Bill Brunjes on 082 443 1519.
