The Johannesburg Regional Court sentenced Martin Nwosu Chidiebere to seven years’ imprisonment after he was convicted of robbery.
According to Cleveland police spokesperson Captain Johan Jordaan, Chidiebere robbed the complainant of her cellphone while she was walking along Buckingham Street in Kensington on 7 September 2016.
“The complainant screamed and Chidiebere fled the scene. A resident in the area helped the complainant and started to search the streets for Chidiebere,” said Jordaan.
Chidiebere was apprehended by a resident at the corner of Gloucester and Royal Oak streets in Kensington. “Chidiebere was taken into custody to Cleveland Police Station for investigation,” said Jordaan. “Warrant Officer Roy Shipalana showed that he will do everything in his power to get a good conviction through hard work and he is commended for his good work by Cleveland Police Station management.”
