Dedicated dancer and team to take on the world

"I am very blessed to have such an amazing team."

Local dancer and owner of Kezone dance school Kerryn Stow hopes to take on the world at a 2017 Fiestalonia Milenio dance competition.

Stow will be joined by Trimica Appel and Kathleen Wilson at the international event.

“These amazing talented dancers have been at my studio for many years now and have both qualified to receive their South African colours through Dance Masters South Africa,” said Stow.

She told the NEWS a few other dancers have qualified for the competition, but will not be joining the trio.

In order for the dancers to get where they are today Stow explained that it took many hours of practice and dedication.

While in Spain the trio will dance in more than one section and will do hip hop, break-dancing, contemporary and Latin American style in the relevant age categories.

“We are hoping to make podiums overseas as everyone has worked super hard for this event,” said Stow.

Stow’s dancing career began when she was four years old.

She started ballet dancing at the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), where she fell in love with dance.

She is a qualified dancer and studied classical dance, jazz, theatrical movement and arts, and dance theory at Pro Arte.

In 1999 she attended the National School of Arts, where she matriculated in dance.

However, while in matric, Stow injured her feet and had to take a year’s break from dancing to recover.

Despite her injury she needed to dance.

“I joined a modern and tap dance studio in Bedfordview, as these were two dance styles I had not studied yet. This went on for a few years while I was studying travel and tourism,” said Stow.

In 2010 after studying further dancing styles, including hip hop and break-dancing, Stow opened her own dance and fitness studio.

She said since the opening of the studio she has enjoyed only success and even had the opportunity to compete internationally in 2016.

Appel and Wilson were part of the team which accompanied Stow to the competition.

Stow explained that some of the dancers who competed in the 2016 competition placed 12th in the hip hop small group division.

Another dancer placed eighth in the break-dancing competition.

“I am very blessed to have such an amazing team,” said Stow.
