The memo given to the NEWS contained general information about what needed to be done, but nothing specifically related to the Eastleigh business’ concerns regarding the spruit.
Because the memo had no signature or letterhead, the NEWS attempted to determine the validity of the information by sending a request for confirmation and comment to the municipality.
The NEWS sent its request on July 13 requesting comment by July 17.
On August 4, Themba Gadebe – spokesperson and senior media manager for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality – said the municipality cannot comment “as the matter is under judicial consideration”.
He said the municipality is prohibited from providing comment.
