Hillcrest Grade R teacher Shantelle Moses said Grade R learners are always overlooked and they wanted to do something that they would all enjoy.

“As educators, it is our duty to shape and mould young minds. This day was just one way of placing emphasis on their rights and their responsibilities. I believe that if we instil in our children the importance of having good morals and values, it will enable them to become responsible citizens and respected leaders in the future. It is best to start with the Grade R learners so we can continue to build on a solid foundation,” said Moses.

The day’s activities included singing and games which saw all the Grade R children participate.

Representatives from The Department of Education and Joburg East District for Early Childhood Development also attended the event.

“It’s always exciting to see children from three neighbouring schools sharing good practice and engaging in physical activities. Our curriculum requires children to participate in physical education to develop their motor skills,” said Senior Education Specialist, Rosemary Ndawonde.
