Bedfordview SAPS spokesman, Capt Andrè de Jager said reported cases of robbery had increased but it was not yet alarming.
De Jager said commuters were at risk for a robbery because of using their earphones when walking, luring robbers to target them for their cellphones.

“We have a problem with people walking with their earphones on and these earphones are connected to their cellphones. This is an open invitation to the robbers that a person has a cellphone on them. They then become targets,” explained de Jager.
The spokesman urged commuters to walk without their cellphones in their hands or with hands-free devices instead so as to avoid robbery.
