New Yeoville CPF announced
“We want to get the community involved, because a united community is a safe community.”

A new Yeoville Community Police Forum was announced on November 12, and aims to waste no time in getting the community involved in making the suburb a safer place in which to live, work and play.
Newly elected chairperson Joseph Dube said the CPF is are ready to serve the community by tackling issues of crime in Yeoville.

“The most important thing is to bring the rule of law and bring back the spirit of caring for one another,” said Dube.
“It’s important to have a programme that is informed by the needs of the community, and that is what we have.”
Dube said initiatives like street patrols and the youth desk will be revived.
“Street patrols play a big role because they address the petty crime in the area. The youth desk will help to activate good programmes for the youth and keep them active and involved in their community.”

The new CPF is hitting the ground running, with activities already planned for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
“We want to get the community involved, because a united community is a safe community.”
Dube said the biggest problems they have picked up in Yeoville are petty crime, by-law infringements and car theft.
“Cellphone theft is a problem in the area because it’s one of the easy things to sell and that makes people feel unsafe. Noise pollution is also a problem for residents which needs to be addressed. Your business should not affect residents.”
He said he is concerned by the level of crime because it has caused businesses to close down.
“We want businesses to reopen as it brings employment to the area. As Yeoville CPF, we want to work with businesses to find solutions.”
He said local residents, business owners, community organisations and police will have to work together to curb crime in Yeoville.
“The problems in Yeoville will not be resolved by an outsider. We are the only people who will solve the problems by working with the police.
“I call on the community of Yeoville to stand up and be counted in finding a solution to the crime that is happening in Yeoville.”
Dube said the new CPF members will be inducted before year-end.
