Bedfordfview cycle studio hosts CHOC fund-raiser

CHOC provides the necessary support to individuals, communities and families of those under the age of 14 who suffer from cancer.

The Cows have since 2008 hosted various events around the country to raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (CHOC).

These events are aimed at not only bringing in much-needed funds, but also at raising awareness of the 215 000 children around the country who are battling cancer.

The event, while aimed at raising funds, was also an opportunity for cyclists to have fun.

Each rider donated R100 for their seat on the bike and in the end, a total of R12 500 was raised.

Avid cyclists took part in the event in groups of three or four.

Groups consisting of three participants took on a 30km time trial, while a 40km trial was set out for teams of four.

Each participant in the team was able to choose how long they wanted to cycle for on stationary bicycles, as long as the team collectively finished the specified distance required.

The cycling team from CrankIt told participants that they would donate a further R2 000 to CHOC should the team be beaten on the night.

In the end, the host team finished in third place.

Approximately 120 people participated in and supported the event.

The CrankIt Studio gave away prizes of 10 free sessions on the night and Sausage Saloon sponsored food for guests and participants.

Studio manager for CrankIt Sarah Kirkham said that it was great to host the event.

“Our state-of-the-art indoor cycling facility was absolutely buzzing with people and energy,” she said.
