Young dancers looking for a helping hand
"Sometimes we go home with little money, sometimes we go home with nothing."

Vulinkungu youth group performs on Jules Street after school and on weekends.
Founder of the group, Sindi Ndlela, said her pleas for support and donations have fallen on deaf ears.

“I have approached various people and asked them to help the youth group with donations. I did not get anything. Instead I came up with a plan to perform here on Jules Street with the group. When people pass by, some put money inside our money box while we perform,” she said.
Ndlela said they have tough days.

“Sometimes we go home with little money, sometimes we go home with nothing. The money that people contribute is not a lot. The money that we get through dancing, singing and performing on the street will be used to buy uniforms, a speaker and a drum for our group,” she said.
As a young girl, she performed drama and participated in a dance group.
“I also had an opportunity to go to London to showcase my talents in traditional dance when I was in primary school.

“I have passion for the arts and I would like to help children nurture their talents. I would like the group to perform at other places so that we can raise money. The problem is transport, as I cannot afford to pay for all the children.”
Ndlela said she is pleading with parents to support the group.

“I would like to see more children join this group.”
She thanked Cleveland Community Policing Forum chairperson Godfrey Mothibe and Cleveland SAPS station commander Colonel Bongani Dlamini for allowing the group to practise at Cleveland SAPS.
“Without them I don’t know where we would be,” said Ndlela.
