
Six suspects were arrested when the City of Joburg conducted a crime prevention operation at three hijacked properties in Berea on February 13.
The operation was led by the city’s Group Forensic and Investigation Services (GFIS) unit, the SAPS, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), Emergency Management Services (EMS), and the city’s Environmental Health, Citizen Relationship, Urban Management and Social Development departments.

“The properties that were targeted during the operation included Blue Huisi, Harrison Reef Hotel, and Kirrbil,” said City of Joburg executive mayor Clr Herman Mashaba. “Six suspects who are wanted for various crimes were arrested after they were identified through the morpho-touch fingerprint device.”
Mashaba said the electricity supply which was illegally connected to two of the buildings was cut off.
“We are committed to ensuring that we stop the rot in our inner city and make it a prosperous and inclusive place for our people to live, work and play,” he said.
