“The library week is a flagship celebration on the literacy calendar and it is encouraged by the library and Information Association of South Africa,” said Help2read programme manager Smangele Mathebula.
This year’s theme was “Libraries: Heart of the Community”.

“Our literacy intervention programmes are run at public primary schools across South Africa. Help2Read also provide one-on-one attention to children who struggle to read,” said Mathebula.
Youngsters from Observatory Girls Primary School enjoyed themselves as they listened to eight-year-old Khanya Masina while she read, I love me, which she co-authored with her mother Bianca Masina.
