A dispute over a boundary wall between two Bedfordview property owners resulted in the City of Ekurhuleni serving notice of contravention on both property owners.
Following the floods of November 9, 2016, the corner section of the boundary wall between the two Senderwood properties collapsed.
According to Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the City of Ekurheleni, a site investigation was conducted upon receiving the boundary wall dispute.
Gadebe said it was established the boundary wall was illegally erected without approved building plans.
“The city has liaised with both affected parties and both parties denied the boundary wall being built by them,” said Gadebe.

He said a decision was made to serve both parties sharing the wall with a contravention notice.
He also said they will take remedial action by appointing an engineer to establish the severity and cause of the boundary wall collapsing.
Gadebe said there will also be steps taken to redeem the situation that renders the wall threatening to life or property.
“Building plans will be considered, prior to redesigning or rebuilding the boundary wall,” said Gadebe.
