The team and Malvern residents cleaned up Persimmon Street in Malvern.
Cristina Paul, who has been a resident of Malvern since February, said she decided to be part of the campaign as she wants to see Malvern clean.
“I have two grass cutting machines so I decided to share my machines with Malvern residents to bring change in the community.

“I realised that most residents want to see their pavements clean but they can’t afford to clean it as they don’t have the tools. I looked at my front lawn and I realised that if I did not have grass cutting machines my house would be a mess,” she said.
Paul said she spoke to Mike Spadino about the idea of sharing her grass cutting machines with the rest of Malvern.
“We lend our machines to anyone in the community. All that people need to do when they need to cut their lawns is to contact us. It is free. We just request residents to book the use of the machines in time,” said Paul.
“We will request their contact details and contact them and let them know which date we have booked the machine for them.
“The machines are available on Saturdays. We will deliver the machines and we will wait until they finish to cut their lawns. I want to see Malvern clean and I cannot just sit back and expect things to happen. I have to play a part to ensure that this happens. If the grass is cut it will reduce crime,” she said.

Paul said the machine is not only for landlords.
“Even if people are renting a room, they are welcome to contact us and book and cut grass cut. We hope that this will bring about an improvement in our area before the start of the rainy season,” she said.
Ward 118 Clr Neuren Pietersen also took part in cleaning up Persimmon Street.
“The campaign is a fantastic example of how the community can empower themselves to make their neighbourhood a place that they can be proud of.
“It is a great initiative. It also links to the A Re Sebetseng campaign. I would like to encourage the community to continue doing this amazing work. May the campaign grow and expand and ultimately make Malvern a place that they can be proud of,” he said.
Malvern Care Team spokesperson Mike Spadino said the campaign has been long overdue.
“This is a very good idea as we will bring Malvern back to its former glory. There will be a lucky draw for people who book this service. This is to encourage residents to participate so that we can have a clean suburb,” he said.
Anyone who wants to book the machines can contact Cristina Paul on 079 701 8529 or Nomvula Sidu on 083 868 1670.
