Constable laid to rest

The 25-year-old constable was shot dead while two Fidelity guards and two bystanders were wounded during a cash-in-transit heist in Hillbrow on June 21.

Johannesburg East SAPS Cluster Constable Thandanani Zwelakhi Shange was buried in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, on June 30.

The service took place at Ntolwane Primary School and he was buried at KwaNxamalala.

The 25-year-old constable was shot dead while two Fidelity guards and two bystanders were wounded during a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in Hillbrow on June 21.

A number of unknown suspects attacked and fired shots at a parked CIT vehicle and fled the scene in vehicles with an undisclosed amount of money.

“Six suspects were arrested, two of whom were wounded in the shoot-out. Seven firearms, including rifles and pistols, were recovered and three vehicles were seized,” said national police spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili.

Shange joined the SAPS in March last year and completed his training at Tswane Training College in December last year.

His memorial service was held at Ellis Park Arena on June 27. He is survived by his parents and five siblings.
