Jeppe SAPS management is appealing to the community to refrain from using social media when reporting crimes.
“We acknowledge that there are sector WhatsApp groups that most of our senior officers and sector managers are part of but the community must not report crimes on these groups,” said Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Capt Richard Munyayi.
Munyayi advised residents to contact the SAPS on 10111. Residents can also contact the police station on 011 624 6000/6060.

“The WhatsApp groups are there for the community and the police to communicate but emergency issues should be reported immediately to 10111 or client service centre (charge office) for a quick response.
“If residents have information regarding criminal activities or on wanted suspects they should do so privately by calling the client service centre or the detective contact number which is 011 624 6026. They can also contact the duty officer who will be on standby on 082 371 9743. They can also contact the relief commander, who is in charge of the client service centre on 082 371 9746,” he said.
The community is also encouraged to attend sector meetings.

“We appreciate the relationship that we have with most of the community members who are working with us in terms of corporation and reporting of criminal activities and giving us information,” he said.
