#CrimeStats: Sebenza rape stats up by 150% and hijacking increases by 40%

There was a 22.2 decrease in the number of cases involving malicious damage to property.

According to the national SAPS crime statistics released earlier today, Sebenza SAPS showed an 80 per cent decrease in the number of common robbery cases reported to the station from 10 reported in the 2016/2017 period to two cases reported in the 2017/2018 period.

Both the number of murders and the cases of sexual offences increased for the area.

While no murders were reported in the 2016/2017 period the station reported four cases of murder for the 2017/2018 period.

The number of rape cases increased by 150 per cent from two cases in 2016/2017 to five cases in 2017/2018.

Hijacking cases increased by 40.6 per cent from 32 in 2016/2017 to 45 in 2017/2018 while cases of robbery at non-residential premises increased by 36.1 per cent from 36 cases to 46.

There was a 22.2 decrease in the number of cases involving malicious damage to property and a 27.9 per cent decrease in the number of vehicles stolen in the area.
