ANC comments on allegations after CCPF meeting

“We committed ourselves to encourage more people to attend these CPF meetings and to also participate in all the programmes of the CPF in the future.”

ANC Raymond Mhlaba branch secretary Sipho Mthembu told EXPRESS the members of the local branch were indeed wearing political party regalia at the meeting.

“Our members were coming from an ANC event. After the event, they attended the meeting. There is nothing in the CPF Constitution that says members of the community must not wear their political regalia.

“ANC is a leader of society and has its leaders deployed in various structures of the community. When they were asked to introduce themselves, they were never given any rules in terms of how they should introduce themselves. I have been attending CPF meetings for some time now,” he said.

Mthembu said those who walked out of the meeting were the ones who tried to turn the police station into a circus.

“The people who walked out were the current DA councillor (Pietersen), former DA councillor (Spadino) and the secretary of CPF. The rest of the people who were at the meeting were happy to see us.

“We all contributed positively to the discussions and we were even encouraged to play a more meaningful role in the life of the CPF.

“We committed ourselves to encourage more people to attend these CPF meetings in the future and to also participate in all the programmes of the CPF in the future,” he said.

He told EXPRESS the Thuma Mina event in May, which was organised by the Ward 118 ANC Raymond Mhlaba branch in collaboration with the Generation for Christ Church and CPF, was a good initiative of giving back to the community.

“The community from Ward 118 was shocked to see such a good initiative and we did not have ANC flags all over the station on the day of the event. The ANC flags were at the police barracks,” he said.
