Edenvale church and businesses lend a hand

To celebrate World Cleanup Day, Edenvale Methodist Church cleaned the area surrounding Tembisa-based Tshepang Care Centre.

The clean-up was held in partnership with Etope Waste Management, Pick n Pay Greenstone Hypermarket, Pick n Pay Woodmead Hypermarket, Plastic SA and PETCO on September 15.

Clean-up organiser Gloria Vellem said children from the centre helped clean the area which is near a dumping site.

“Children were also educated on the importance of keeping our environment clean,” said Gloria.

Meals and gifts were provided to the children and volunteers by the companies.

The church donated chips and sweets.

Children from Tembisa-based Tshepang Care Centre and volunteers from various businesses clean up the area around the centre on World Cleanup Day on September 15.

“What I realised while we were cleaning is that people in that area have a proper place to dump their waste,” said Gloria.

She said if two skips were placed in the area it would assist the community and lessen the amount of rubbish children in the area play next to.
