Motoring fun in Modderfontein

The club was formed in 1970 by a group of car enthusiasts and used to meet in Kensington.

Community members, young and old, flocked to the Piston Ring Club’s October Motor Memories Show to look at vintage cars and motorcycles.

The show was held on October 21 at the Modderfontein Club Grounds along Bloemfontein Street.

The club was formed in 1970 by a group of car enthusiasts and used to meet in Kensington.

When the club first started there were 70 members.

In 1994 it moved to the Modderfontein grounds.

Modderfontein resident and committee member of the club Michael Davidson said the event went well.

He said on average between 300 and 400 cars are displayed by club members monthly.

Cars on display were manufactured between 1930 and 1990.

In addition to displaying the cars, the club hosts a flea market.

The flea market gave community members the opportunity to browse through a variety of antiques and crafted items.

The club meets on the third Sunday of each month.

Entrance for non-members is a nominal R20 per person, children under 12 enter for free.
