BabyYumYum brings road safety awareness to Bedfordview

BabyYumYum is using Transport Month to raise awareness about safely transporting babies or young children in a vehicle.

The BabyYumYum bear mascot brought home the message of road safety by handing out safety flyers and Baby on Board (BOB) stickers at the corner of Nicol and Van Buuren roads and corner of Ivy Drive and Van Buuren Road in Bedfordview on October 25.

The BabyYumYum bear also made a special visit to Opti-Baby & Kids Bedfordview to further promote the message of road safety.

According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) Traffic Report of 2017, cars and light driving vehicles made the highest contributions to fatal crashes at 47.6 per cent and 19.7 per cent, respectively.

Additionally, these figures may contribute to the high number of passenger fatalities.

The report also showed that human factors contributed 91 per cent to the occurrence of fatal crashes, followed by roads and environmental factors at five per cent and vehicle factors at three per cent.

“These stats have huge implications in terms of active contribution to road safety and with road traffic injuries coming second to homicide as cause of death in SA, it’s time to take a serious look at solutions to protecting the most vulnerable of road users and the future generation – our children,” said Amanda Rogaly, founder of BabyYumYum.

She further added that the BOB sticker alerts fellow motorists and emergency personnel to the fact that there’s precious cargo on board, providing an extra precautionary measure to protecting the most valuable and most vulnerable on the road.

“Transport Month provides an ideal opportunity to draw attention to safe driving practices and precautions parents can implement to safeguard our young on the roads.

“Our aim is to use the BOB sticker as a springboard to creating awareness of road safety, encouraging safer, considerate driving,” said Rogaly.
