A guard injured during an armed robbery at Stoneridge Centre is responding well to medical treatment he is receiving after being rushed to a hospital.
The guard was taken to hospital on October 31 when he was shot in the face by armed suspects when they fled the scene of a robbery at a second-hand store at the centre.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Capt Jean Olckers said the guard is in a stable condition and is responsive.
He said eight suspects, most armed with handguns, robbed the store.
“While attempting to flee the scene the suspects were spotted by a security guard,” said Olckers.

He said when the guard intervened, a shootout occurred and the guard was shot.
About 14 cartridges and a live round were found spread across the scene.

Olckers said the suspects fled towards the Greenstone Shopping Centre and they were followed by SAPS and security personnel.
He said one suspect was arrested at the Greenstone Taxi Rank.

“One firearm was recovered at the taxi rank. The remaining suspects fled the area in a white sedan,” said Olckers.
“The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money and second-hand items.”
The arrested suspect will face charges of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Olckers said he is expected to appear in court soon.

“Police are still investigating the robbery and following up on all leads.”
The matter will be investigated by the Trio Crimes Unit.
Stoneridge Centre thanked thank its security, the SAPS and all the security companies in the area for their quick response.
