“The roads are for everyone” – Edenvale cyclists
“Lack of understanding creates division, we want to start to build understanding between motorists and cyclists who must, of necessity, share the roads.”
The Edenglen Cycling Club (ECC) hosted a march through Edenvale to broker greater respect and understanding between cyclists and motorists.
The march themed “Cyclists are people too” was held on November 10 and saw community members and cyclists unite.
ECC joint chairperson Samantha Gailey said the decision to host the march was held after two club members recently died in accidents.

Wayne Peterson (49) and Joseph Greenan (75) both died in incidents involving vehicles.
Joseph was killed on Herman Road when he was hit by a taxi on October 22.

Sam said Wayne was killed earlier in October on Harris Road when an overtaking vehicle went past him.
“We are really saddened to have lost two of our members,” said Sam.
“Wayne and Joseph were very special members of the club and were loved by everyone.”
She said to prevent further deaths the club decided to do something.
