The Grade Four learners of Sacred Heart College recently had a fun time displaying digital art created using virtual reality (VR) technology.
The display was held at the Blue Ocean Virtual Reality Centre in Bedford Gardens, Bedfordview.
Learners got to understand the ins and outs of French artist Henri Matisse in the process.

“They also learnt how to create art on their iPads and translate these into 3D projects,” said educator at the school Nadrie Botha.
“Parents were invited to the exhibition and were amazed when they put their VR goggles on and saw what their children had been doing. We are speeding into the future and our children had a taste of what it would be like to be creating in 3D.”
Blue Ocean VR CEO Eric Huang said learners got an opportunity to experience the inner workings of VR and should consider VR design as a career once they’ve completed schooling.
“We are helping children to become VR designers which will help them in the future. VR designers have one of the top 10 jobs in the world,” said Huang.

“Amazon, for example, is now hiring VR designers and are willing to pay a high salary for them to design a VR shopping centre.
“Imagine having a friend in America and meeting up through VR and going to London to do your shopping? This will take over online shopping.”
