KRRA thanks residents for support in 2018
It has been a good year for Kensington and we hope the new year is even better.
Kensington Residents and Ratepayers Association (KRRA) chairperson Kgomotso Modise had a chat with the EXPRESS to reflect on 2018 and share what has been happening in the area.
“As an association, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all Kensington residents a safe and festive holiday season, as well as a prosperous 2019. It has been a good year for Kensington and we hope the new year is even better,” said Modise.
She said 2018 started on a high note with a public meeting between the City of Joburg and residents.

“Residents came out in numbers, but we were left disappointed when the City did not send us the promised delegation. How the City handled that meeting guided us on how we should deal with meetings concerning the city going forward. We then decided to hold department-specific public meetings which worked out wonderful for us.
“We have had three successful meetings this year, with City Power, Building Control and the recently held IDP meeting. These interactions have gone a long way in promoting our association to the city and giving weight to our problems,” explained Modise.
She also said the association is happy with the success of the Spring Fair and that they appreciate the feedback they have received from residents.
“Residents have requested we add more arts and crafts stalls. We are still finding our feet and trying new things for the fair but we hope we will get it right next year,” said Modise.

She said the passion of a clean and safe Kensington has not changed and this still remains number one on the association’s list.
“We have demonstrated our commitment through our support of Clean Village and the re-launch of Patrolling of Public Space. We would like to thank Clean Village for their sterling efforts in keeping Kensington clean and urge all community members to support Clean Village and the PPS initiative in order for both to grow and for us to prevent our village in the City from being riddled with crime and grime,” said Modise.
She further thanked the councillors for the support.
“Thank you councillors Carlos Da Rocha and Neuren Pietersen, for the improved teamwork we have harnessed in 2018. We trust this will grow from strength to strength,” said Modise.
She also thanked the residents for their support.
“We would like to extend the most heartfelt gratitude to the residents. There would be no resident association without residents. We thank you for keeping your pavements clean and tidy, for attending meetings and giving us your input when we have needed it, for supporting us financially through your membership, for reporting problems to the City, and most importantly for just being fabulous.
“We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year,” said Modise.
