Ward 118 cares for the needy in the area

The families who received gifts are from the informal settlement next to Tooronga train station in Malvern.

On December 28, Raymond Mhlaba, an official of the ANC branch in Ward 118, collaborated with the Generation for Christ Church, by distributing Christmas gifts to 50 needy families resident at an informal settlement in Malvern.

The ceremony to distribute the gifts took place at the Generation for Christ Church in Malvern.

“The branch and church are involved in the community. We saw a need to assist these families. The festive season is about giving. If you are hungry, it’s difficult to enjoy spending time together. We wanted to remind them that the community cares,” said ANC branch secretary, Sipho Mthembu.

“These families are victims of a shack fire that happened a few months back. We wanted to give hope and restore their spirit,” said Mthembu.

He said the local community has a role to play to make a difference in peoples’lives.

“As the community, we need to look after each other. If you see someone in need offer some help. Big or small, it goes a long way. “As the branch, we are pleased to have a church that is willing to help the community. They are not only concerned about nurturing the spirit but also the body,” said Mthembu.

Pastor Genene Woldesemayat said: “As a church, we saw there was a need in the community and we wanted to help. We want to offer hope and to support the community. The community has a number of social challenges which we want to try to help address. If we work together we will find a solution. ”
