With the start of 2019, Clr Tiziana Plaskitt for Ward 92 has welcomed back community members from holidays and is ready to assist where she can in order to improve their well-being.
“I hope that everyone is fresh for the New Year and wish them a good year ahead.”
Following her return, Plaskitt will pick up where she left off last year.
Some of Plaskitts’ highlights during 2018 included the upgrading of stormwater infrastructure along Herman Road. This ensured that maintenance of stormwater infrastructure was done. She has also helped to stabilise electricity infrastructure in the Sunnyridge and surrounding areas. She also saw to phase two of the Barbara Road upgrade started.
Following these achievements, Plaskitt hopes to continue resolving other concerns in her ward.
Some of her priorities include the upgrade to the Beverly Avenue Spruit, the construction of the Klopperpark Fire Station and to ensure that the stormwater infrastructure in Germiston was repaired.

Plaskitt said although the large tree which had hindered the flow of water in the Beverly Avenue Spruit was removed, the spruit largely remains filled with debris and silt.
“The debris is hindering the flow of water which could increase the risk of flooding,” said Plaskitt.
“Additionally, the water is eroding the walls of the servitude which could become problematic.”
Despite the current state of the spruit, Plaskitt said the environmental impact assessment, and plans for its upgrade, have been approved and the project should start this year.
Plaskitt said the outstanding requirement to precede the commencement of the upgrade was the issuing of water use licence.

“I will push with all of my energy for the upgrade to happen this year.”
By having a fire station in Klopperpark, Plaskitt believes that emergency response time will be reduced as a dedicated team will now work in the area.
At the moment the suburb does not have a fire station and relies on fire stations from Bedfordview, Edenvale, Germiston and Kempton Park.
“On some occasions, there is a delay from the fire stations as no one is certain who needs to respond to Klopperpark,” said Plaskitt.
The fire station will provide services to Klopperpark, Isando, Elandsfontein and the surrounding areas.

During the course of this year, Plaskitt hopes to see the speedy repair of approximately 200 metre of stormwater infrastructure in Germiston.
The infrastructure which runs between Coral Street and Pine Avenue runs under several roads, residential properties, and has started collapsing.
Plaskitt said some of the houses and pools located near the collapsed infrastructure are showing wear and tear.
In addition to her priorities, Plaskitt hopes to ensure that by-laws are enforced and that Barbara Road is upgraded. She will work closely with Clr Wendy Morgan to ensure continuous electricity supply to Sunnyrock and the surrounding areas. Also, she will work closely with Clr Heather Hart to ensure the Highway Gardens stormwater servitude is maintained.
Plaskitt is encouraging community members to work with councillors and to report municipal issues through the correct channels.
“Community members need to report municipal issues as much as possible, there is no limitation on the number of times you can report issues,” said Plaskitt.
She said the more an issue was reported, the more of a priority it is made for the municipality.
“I hope that residents will take the opportunity later this year to have their say on the voting day.”
