Raised by his grandparents, and the eldest of three siblings, Charles has always risen above his circumstances.
“The club has played such a crucial role in my life. The facilitators always encouraged me to be the best version of myself and ensured I did my homework every day.
“Programmes like Career Launch and Passport to Manhood helped in guiding my decision to study law and shape my character as a young person,” said Charles.
He said he is excited about his university acceptance and looks forward to the new journey.
“I feel excited and overwhelmed by what lies ahead. I’m ready and will make the best of it,” said Charles.
His grandmother, Fikile Mabaso, said she is proud of him and grateful to the club.
“I’m really proud of Charles. He has always been a determined young man who’s responsible and focused. I’m so thankful to the club because I can see the positive effect it’s had on his life,” expressed Mabaso.
Charles has been a good example to his peers in the club.
In 2017 he was nominated as Youth of the Year because of his exemplary behaviour among his peers, as well as his participation and service around the club.
Another matriculant, Mpumi Phetoe, obtained three distinctions in IsiZulu, English, and life orientation.
“I’m so excited about my results and I look forward to following my dreams. To me this is more than a pass, its also to show my peers and the community there is always hope,” said Mpumi.
Marketing coordinator Sne Vilakazi said the club is proud of the two.
“We are happy that they have done well in their studies and we hope they will continue doing well. We are glad the club had an impact on their lives because we aim to help children with ongoing support through their school-going years. We want to ensure they matriculate knowing what they want to do with their future,” said Vilakazi.
The club looks after children from disadvantaged families and provides aftercare for children.
It assists with homework and also provides a meal for children on a day-to-day basis. The club serves learners from Grade R to 12.
