On January 31, metro representatives painted traffic lines on Sovereign Road in Bedford Gardens.
Bedfordview resident Bradley Rosenthal said the south-bound lane was too wide.
“It is wide enough for a tank to drive down while the north-bound lane is not even wide enough for a normal sized vehicle,” said Rosenthal.
Rosenthal said this forces vehicle travelling south to straddle both lanes causing near-misses with vehicles travelling north.
“In addition, vehicles turning south into Sovereign from Bedfordview side are forced to turn into north-bound lane as most normal vehicles’ turning circle is not small enough to keep the vehicle in the correct lane thereby causing further near-misses with vehicles traveling north,” said Rosenthal.

Rosenthal added that this situation is a disaster waiting to happen.
Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said that Sovereign Road is on the border of City of Johannesburg and City of Ekurhuleni.
“All metros are denying any responsibilities for this mishap. Nobody knows who has done this,” said Humphreys.
She said that she will continue to get answers from both metros.
