JUST IN: SAPS confirms Sunday afternoon shooting in Bedfordview

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele confirmed this afternoon’s shooting on Smith Road in Bedfordview.

“Apparently Bedford Centre security guards responded to an incident of armed robbery,” said Makhubele.

Nikki Savides Kruger from Bedford Centre said in response to inquiries that the incident took place outside the centre at about 2pm.

“When they confronted the suspects, who were traveling in a white VW Polo, the suspects pointed their firearms at the guards. Shots were fired and the suspects fled. No one was reported injured,” said Makhubele.

“Several shots were fired. The centre’s security teams responded immediately and the SAPS was notified, and responded to the scene soon afterwards,” said Savides Kruger.

“The safety and security of shoppers and tenants is of utmost importance to Bedford Centre and we are working with the SAPS and security experts to assist with their investigation. The mall is trading as normal,” said Savides Kruger.
