Troyeville Primary braces for a new library

A new library comes to Troyeville Primary School.

Troyeville Primary School is gearing up for a revamp as part of a CSI programme organised by Standard Bank, the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, as well as the Gauteng Education Department.

The objective of the CSI programme, that will see the opening a newly enhanced library space for learners to utilise on March 19, is to inculcate the love and culture of reading among the learners in the school’s foundation phase – with a further aim of improving the level of literacy from Grades R to Three.

New shelves and an art mural will be introduced in the space, turning it into a beautiful library.

Angel Mgayo, the events coordinator at RAK Events, that are the service providers on the CSI project, told the EXPRESS a new selection of books will also be housed at the library, which was previously a functional classroom.

She said these books will be age appropriate, relevant, exciting and specially illustrated for learners in the foundation phase.

Learners will no longer occupy this space as an old classroom but as a newly enhanced library space.

“The Department of Education assists the project by selecting schools that need a library facility to be revamped and resourced, while the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation will donate books to the revamped libraries,” said Mgayo.

“The old classroom is cleaned, painted and general repairs are taken care of where necessary, turning it into a library. Related wall art is drawn on the walls and shelves are installed and books shelved accordingly,” she said.
