Interwaste removed at least one of the skips placed near the Tooronga Railway Station in Cliveden near Cleveland.
This follows a complaint by a resident of Malvern and spokesperson of the Malvern Care Team, Mike Spadino, on March 12.
At the time Spadino complained that the skips were filled to capacity and that they posed a serious health risk to the community.
More than a week after the EXPRESS published the article about the skips, Interwaste said they had removed at least one of the skips.
Kate Stubbs, director of business development and marketing at the waste removal company, stated in email correspondence to the resident on March 20 that they would have the remaining skip removed the same day.
“We will organise for the last skip to be removed,” said Stubbs in the email reply.
In response, Spadino extended his and the community’s gratitude.
“We want to say thank you very much for the removal of the skip at the corner of Dandenong and 26th streets, which was a great health risk,” said Spadino.
He pleaded with Stubbs to keep to her promise of ensuring her company removes the remaining skip.
“There is still the skip near Tooronga Railway Station. Please, can this also be removed as we want to get Pikitup to come and remove garbage on the ground with front-end loaders,” said Spadino.
Spadino said previously that Pikitup insisted they could not remove the skips as they belong to a private waste management company.
