All 11 officers received promotions to the rank of sergeant after serving as constables for 10 years.

Unit Commander at the Flying Squad Lt Col Christo Erasmus congratulated the members and noted that at some police stations, personnel who occupy the rank of sergeant go on to become managers.

“All of you should start seeing yourselves as managers and assume the responsibility that comes with the rank.

“You also have the responsibility of promoting respect between the police and the community,” said Erasmus.

He also encouraged them to uphold integrity and to do good even when no one is watching.

Joburg Flying Squad spokesperson Sgt Desmond Subramoney also congratulated the newly promoted members and reminded them that there are constables looking up to them.

“As the now seniors to the constables of this unit, it is important that you continue to serve this organisation with pride, respect and honesty so that the organisation can be trusted,” said Subramoney.
