‘Don’t leave valuables in cars’ – de Jager

“Criminals identify these cars and steal the valuables.”

Bedfordview SAPS has appealed to community members not to leave valuables in their vehicles while shopping.

Capt André de Jager, Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson, said several cases of theft out of motor vehicles were recently reported at the station.

During these thefts, laptops were reportedly taken.

“People must not leave valuable items visible in their cars while shopping. Criminals identify these cars and steal the valuables.”

Additionally, he said police noticed that some of the theft out of motor vehicles cases were opened falsely.

“A complainant reported that their laptop was stolen from the car but after further investigation, it was revealed that the complainant lied about the crime.”

“We proceeded with opening a case of defeating the ends of justice, charged the person and took them to court.”
