Greenstone and Modderfontein voters made their mark
Many voters came out with their entire families to vote.
Election Day was a buzz on May 8 in Greenstone and Modderfontein.
Locals were early birds as lines were already long by 7am, regardless of the chilly weather.
Heritage Christian College voting station saw locals arriving to vote by 6am.
Although ballot papers were late and only one scanner was available, the determined Modderfontein residents stood in the cold to have their say.
Green Valley voting station had a compact queue that quickly cleared up by midday.
Raymond Garane, Green Valley presiding officer, thanked the area manager, Mangi Mathebula, his deputies, Kefilwe Morobane and Lenies Mathebula, party agents, IEC officials and Edenvale CPF for their excellent work.
“I would like to thank Green Valley Shopping Centre management for providing water to us.”
Garane said the challenge was that staff worked for 24 hours without food and it was totally unfair. He also thanked the Edenvale SAPS and their captain.
“They protected us the whole day and night during counting.”
Many voters came out with their entire families to vote, making it a family affair.
