Cancer tea party for children

The Edenvale community came out and supported the cause.

Raising awareness for cancer in children was the goal for organisers and Edenvale residents Jackie Allen and Julie Reilly.

The pair hosted a tea party on May 11 with a bid to raise funds and alert the community to the symptoms of childhood cancer.

The Edenvale community came out and supported the course.

“We had awesome lucky draw prizes with a fun element,” said Jackie.

Each guest took home a cupcake, gold ribbon and a pamphlet on symptoms of childhood cancer.

Jackie said the children decorated their own cupcakes and there was a jumping castle.

A Zumba dance also got the party going as everyone was up on their feet.

Various stakeholders donated necessities for the success of the event.

Organiser Julie said: “A big thank you goes to Eastleigh Primary School for allowing us to use their hall for the party.”

Midrent Function Hire donated cutlery, Party Parlour and The Cook Sisters supplied eats for the party.

“We had a raffle which had four stunning prizes and raised R2 000 for a little girl with terminal cancer,” said Jackie.

The tea party raised R3 200.

Jackie said they were very happy with the event and hoped the awareness created on the day has given guests enough knowledge to share.
