More stormwater upgrades for Edenvale

"I am feeling great that this project is underway. I cannot explain how happy I am to have a success of this magnitude."

Rehabilitation and remediation work has commenced at Beverley Spruit in the hope of reducing future flooding and stabilising the servitude.

Around the servitude, piles of soil and rocks can be seen, while much of the vegetation which once filled the servitude was removed.

The section of infrastructure lies between Cowie Avenue and Cunningham Road.

According to Ward 92 Clr Tizziana Plaskitt, the project started almost a month ago and forms part of the municipality’s plans to improve servitudes in the area.

“Once the project is finished, the servitude will have gabion mattresses lining its embankments and will look more natural.”

Plaskitt explained that gabions will be used to allow some of the natural water to seep back into the soil which the previous concrete lining did not allow.

When asked about the risk of chemicals or sewage seeping into the soil, Plaskitt said she and other role players are keeping a close eye on the water entering the servitude.

“I am feeling great that this project is underway. I cannot explain how happy I am to have a success of this magnitude,” said Plaskitt.
